Final Part 1

Exergame Video

In order for a man to succeed in life, God provided him with two means, education and physical activity. Not separately, one for the soul and one for the body, but for the two together. With these two means, man can attain perfection.-Plato

The first site is most likely a Canadian page. Ottawa would be my guess of the province, seeing that is says the weather there in the top left corner.
The piece was very interesting and seeing changes like that has to make other countries as well as other school districts to want to be involved in this epidemic. We most likely don't hear these things about City Park because it's in another Country and I feel we as American, our stubborn ways will deny our success in these Exergames. I feel the best outcome of this video was the changing of the children and how their lives were saved. Some of these kids not only were bad with learning and school, but used drugs and were looking at jail time or death. The standards seemed to be the same where students need to participate and not stand around. This video is also beneficial to show that students who exercise more often or at least for 45 minutes a day can increase learning capacity and comprehension. These findings alone should be enough to show the benefits of exercise and learning.
John J. Ratey, wrote a book called Spark, which sparked the teachers idea to get exercise in her classroom which ultimately benefited her students.

Brain-derived neurotrophic factor(BDNF)The more we exercise, the more BDNF functions. It repairs parts of the brain and allows for a less stressful environment. You get BDNF by being active and thinking at the same time.

Racket Activities Rule at Cortland

This semester I have been given the opportunity to assist a teacher in Racket Activities as a teacher assistant. This came from hard work in the class when I was just a regular student. It is a great feeling when a teacher asks you to be a T.A. because it shows they have noticed your hard work and dedication to the subject matter. In every class, we should push ourselves as well as the teachers. This honor has allowed me teaching knowledge as well as getting to know how teachers are on a more personal level. Take these chances and challenges whenever they arise, get your name out there and be part of a team. If any other teachers need a professional T.A. out there, I'm available. Thanks Shirley Cahill for this opportunity to work along side you and learn from your experience.

These are some pictures of me showing students cues and form for tennis swings.

Here are some pictures of me in action,(#24) watch out for the shot...it's WET!!!! If anyone wants to play next year, I'm going to be looking for some other players to make it all the way this time.

Juggling is an Art

Street performers, circus acts, and 255 students juggle at the highest levels. Our class is very talented and we have some natural talent in the juggling field. This lab presented some challenges. My biggest challenge was dealing with the advanced juggling skills of the class. Even though I followed my lesson plan, I should have seen their progress and tried to advance them as much as possible. This was a great lab to learn from my mistakes. I was also able to see some other great lessons and really neat ways to teach certain activities. So I thank the students for their great lessons and ability to help me learn.

AAHPERD Conference

Some of Cortlands finest at the conference!!!
I was able to go to the National Conference in Indianapolis and meet highly recognized speakers and organizations throughout the world. This is a great oppurtunity to not only join a professional organization in our line of work, but to also get out there and meet people. I was able to learn some new games like Netball, which was originated by the man who created basketball,James Naismith. This sport has many benefits for everyone and all ability levels. Netball really allows students who are not great at basketball, to enjoy the idea of the sport. Netball is dominated in Europe but can easily be brought into our culture and into our classrooms.
This is just one of the many games and ideas that I have brought back to share with everyone. If you would like to find out more information about the conference, please feel free to ask. So get to some conferences, meet some people and learn new material for yourself.

I felt so comfortable teaching this lesson, the cues and tasks came very natural to me. I felt very relaxed and the class seemed to be enjoying themselves. It really does help when the class is involved and showing enthusiasm. I had a minor slip when I couldn't remember a task, but I felt that I paused not too long and was able to go right into another one that I remembered. Being prepared with more material helped me in this situation, especially because my tasks were not too difficult. I felt I could have moved through tasks much quicker, but when the class was having fun, I was able to stay on a task until I saw them getting bored. The story line was a good way to relate real life situations to a simple task such as jumping rope or swinging rope. Everyone has been teaching great, which has allowed me to pick up teaching techniques and has made my lesson planning easier. Thanks for everyone's support and keep up the great work. As a class we can rock P.E. I will say this, I'm really happy to be done with this jump rope unit, and by the time everyone else teaches, I'm sure you will feel the same!
